Overview

Serbia is a landlocked country located in Southeastern Europe, at the crossroads of Central and Southeastern Europe. It is bordered by Hungary to the north, Romania to the northeast, Bulgaria to the southeast, North Macedonia to the south, Kosovo to the southwest, Croatia to the west, and Bosnia and Herzegovina to the northwest.

Physical Geography

Serbia has a diverse physical geography, with mountains, rivers, and forests. The country's highest point is Mount Midzor, at 2,169 meters (7,116 feet) above sea level. The Danube River flows through the northern part of the country, and the Sava River forms part of the border with Croatia. Serbia also has several national parks, including Kopaonik National Park and Fruška Gora National Park.

Regions

Serbia is divided into five statistical regions: Vojvodina, Belgrade, Å umadija and Western Serbia, Southern and Eastern Serbia, and Kosovo and Metohija. Vojvodina is an autonomous province in the northern part of the country, while Belgrade is the capital city. Å umadija and Western Serbia is a region in the central part of the country, while Southern and Eastern Serbia is a region in the southern and eastern parts of the country. Kosovo and Metohija is a disputed territory that is currently administered by Serbia.
